"Yo Home to Bel-Air" is a rap song by DJ Jazzy Jeff and The Fresh Prince, which is the theme song for The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. It is a minor meme on the SiIvaGunner channel.
Overview
The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air is a TV sitcom that aired on NBC from September 10, 1990, to May 20, 1996 starring Will Smith ("The Fresh Prince") as a fictional version of himself. It was a big hit at the time, becoming a 90s classic and launching Will Smith to celebrity status. The theme song "Yo Home to Bel-Air" provides exposition on the show's plot. It would start being used as a meme[1] in the mid-2000s, at first as a copypasta, but later it would start being used in mashups on YouTube and YTMND, usually going by the name "The Fresh Prince of [relevant location]".
Rips
Unlike other mashup clichés, "Yo Home to Bel-Air" never became a significant part of the SiIvaGunner channel, and remains a minor meme that appeared most frequently in Season 1 medley rips. One possible explanation for this is overlap, as "Space Jam" fills the exact same niché, being a corny rap theme song for a 90s classic; in particular, the rip "Main Theme (Space Jam) - Barkley, Shut Up and Jam: Gaiden" seems to draw a parallel between the two sources.
