Five Nights at Freddy's is an indie horror video game franchise created by Scott Cawthon. It is also a meme on the SiIvaGunner channel.

Overview

Before making the first game in the series, Scott Cawthon made bible animations and games. He would get the idea for Five Nights at Freddy's after feedback from his game Chipper & Sons Lumber Co., where many people compared the characters to animatronics. He released the first game on the series in August 2014. In the game, you played as a nightguard watching over the animatronics and attempting to survive them. The game would become popular quickly, likely due to many different YouTubers doing let's plays of the game.

Scott would quickly develop and release Five Nights at Freddy's 2 in November of the same year, reaching the same level of popularity as the first game. He would continue to make more sequels to the game, with many spinoffs such as FNaF World releasing too. Many official books and other merch would be made too, and eventually a movie that released in October 2023. A sequel to the movie is currently set to release in December 2025.

Rips

The first rip to feature the series was "#420AnnounceIt", which references the "five nights of snop dog" meme. The first rip directly of the series was "Music Box - Five Nights At Freddy's" 2 months prior. It would continue to be ripped and referenced past these points, mainly seen through "Circus". "Circus" was mainly used for switcheroo rips, and was rarely even featured too long in rips of it. During the Season 1 Finale, many of these switcheroo "Circus" rips were put into the Five Nights at Freddy's Original Soundtrack album.

During Season 7, the Five Nights at Freddy's 3 8th Anniversary event would happen. During the events non-switcheroo rips of various different Five Nights at Freddy's games and fangames would be uploaded. This would lead up to the release of 1987 Grand Dad a month later, an album compiling rips from the event and other Five Nights at Freddy's.
