On September 17, 2021, the South Korean television series Squid Game was released on Netflix. The first episode "Red Light, Green Light", features a giant robot doll singing "Mugunghwa flower has blossomed" in Korean, referencing the hibiscus syriacus, South Korea's national flower.
On October 5, 2021, the SoundCloud user OJC-O.J.C released a remix of the song in style of Jersey club music. The remix prominently samples "My Neck, My Back" by Khia and "Some Cut" by Trillville. The remix gained popularity after the Twitter user @yyyyy_yyed shared the song in question with the caption "ENOUGH😭😭".
