"e (Euler's Number)" is a video by YouTube channel Numberphile. It is a meme on the SiIvaGunner channel.
Overview
Numberphile is an educational YouTube channel which uploads content exploring topics in various fields of mathematics, featuring numerous professionals from relevant fields of study as presenters. On December 19, 2016, the channel uploaded the video "e",[1] in which mathematician James Grime discusses the mathematical constant e, also known as Euler's number, describing the history of the constant and its application in compound interest and rate of change. The video initially drew significant attention from its unusual title, as well as the thumbnail, which solely featured Grime next to the letter "e" in front of a graph depicting exponential growth; both were later changed for consistency with Numberphile's other videos, with the title changed to "e (Euler's Number) - Numberphile" and the thumbnail changed to have the Numberphile logo added on the right. As of March 18, 2024, the video has over 4.5 million views.
Rips
"e (Euler's Number)" was first referenced by SiIvaGunner in the rip "Main Theme - e" on January 16, 2017, which directly references the video's original thumbnail and title. The video would later be featured in the elaborate YTPMV rip "YO-KAI Disco (Hell's Entrance World) - Mamorukun Curse!" on May 21, during the Inspector Gadget Takeover. Both of these rips received significant amounts of attention, garnering over 127k and 301k views respectively, leading to "e (Euler's Number)" being referenced in several other rips since then.
"e (Euler's Number)" would later see a resurgence in use during the International Day of Mathematics 2024 event. Several rips from the event would place a still of James Grime from the video over Jay Eazy's legs from "Mega Man"'s promo video, starting with "Main Theme (Alternate) - e". The fusion is referred to as "The numberphile", taken from a filename from the download link in "Satin Panties (Week 7 Update) - Friday Night Funkin'".
