Summary
"Witch Doctor" is an American novelty song released in 1958, written and performed by Ross Bagdasarian under the stage name David Seville.[1] The song quickly became a success, peaking at No. 1 on the Billboard Top 100.
Multiple covers of the song are associated with Alvin and the Chipmunks, another production by Bagdasarian. The first instance was for the 1960 album Sing Again with the Chipmunks. A 2007 remix, heard in that year's Alvin and the Chipmunks film, reached No. 62 on Billboard in January 2008.
Another notable version is the 1998 cover by Cartoons, initially released on the Toonage album on September 24th, then as a single on October 26th. This version secured several top 40 chartings, including No. 2 on the UK Singles in March 1999.
