Elevator Music 6: SiIvaGunner

From SiIvaGunner Wiki

Elevator Music 6: SiIvaGunner was an exhibit shown at Gallery Aferro from October 5 – November 22, 2019. It was curated by PinkieOats.

Overview

Started on October 5, 2019, the exhibit was featured various SiIvaGunner rips in a Otis Elevator from the basement of the gallery. The elevator itself was not functional, with the exception of the door. It also featured motion detector that would play one of the selected rips as well as a chair for people to sit and listen.

Official description

Elevator Music 6: SilvaGunner, curated by Juno Zago, invites visitors to step inside an early-1900s refurbished Otis Elevator and experience the work of the SilvaGunner collective: remixes of both classic and new video game soundtracks.

SiIvaGunner is a YouTube channel that claims to “only upload high quality video game rips” (rips = music files extracted straight from the game itself). In reality, SiIvaGunner uploads remixes of video game music, advertising them as the original tracks. There is a plethora of artists behind the 10,000+ uploads on the channel, pooling their creative interests and talents into a non-profit project out of their spare time. The remixes can range from well known pop songs to obscure inside jokes, and even original compositions!

SiIvaGunner’s music can be heard on their Youtube channel and purchased via their Bandcamp page.

Rips featured

The exhibit contained a set list of 52 rips from the channel that played in a set loop.

The process of deciding which rips to include were three components for making a selection:

  • Having a joke that was recognizable to the general public
  • Iconic rips
  • Representing the incredibly skilled musicians behind the channel

Trivia

  • The set list was originally composed of 60 rips, but it later had to be shorted to 52.
  • Several rips used for the exhibit were shortened for the exhibit.
  • While at the gallery, various posters were also sold during the exhibit's run.
  • The entire exhibit had a planned out loop that would repeat back from the start that did not work at the exhibit.
  • PinkieOats uploaded a video of the whole exhibit a year after the gallery.
