SiIvaGunner Wiki:Meme discussion/Log/23rd: The Simpsons and Family Guy
I find it quite awkward that both of these sources have full pages on the wiki, yet their overview/background subsections are completely blank. there doesn’t seem to be enough about these themes to justify separate pages when the relevant details could easily be included in their respective franchise pages since the info itself is pretty small, making the presentation feel more complete and less empty.
basically like merging all the big chungus sources into one page since theres not much you can say about each one individually
i think this just comes down to nobody actually writing on the pages how they’re relevant
sure but at the same time what can be said can just be a subsection on the simpsons page since it really isnt that much to be said about the main title theme that cant be said on the simpsons page and also to avoid an awkward mess like this
Considering that the theme song for The Nutshack was only given a category and no separate page, I believe the same thing should apply to these two.
I'd like to point out that there are two previous moot decisions that contradict this proposal. Those being:
- July 13, 2024: "We will make the Family Guy theme song a sub-meme of Family Guy. (5-2-1)"
- October 12, 2024: "We will split the Simpsons category to separate out instances of the theme as its own category. (5-0-0)"
From the original agenda item, written by Overcast:
"Rips featuring" categories for TV shows should be split up if the theme song is the most commonly used source, so that information on the wiki can be organized more sensibly. Specifically, Inspector Gadget, The Simpsons, Family Guy and The Nutshack all have theme songs with well over 25 uses, but each theme song is basically categorized as though it is the show itself, rather than a specific composition, and uses of the theme songs themselves aren't listed anywhere on the wiki. It would make more sense if the theme songs just had their own categories."

..and for The Simpsons:
The theme song of The Simpsons, officially "The Simpsons" Main Title Theme, should have its own category, separate from The Simpsons itself. This would benefit the organization of the wiki, because the newly separated articles and categories would be able to have a clearer focus. The newly created categories would each have more than 25 entries.

i believe funnii's proposal is just for removing the redundant pages, the categorization will still be separate
I think treating these two shows' main themes as a submeme of their shows makes sense. I agree with funnii that there isn't a lot of information about a show's title theme that would justify it having its own article.
We also don't need every rips featuring category to have its own article (like how we merged Snoop Dogg with Drop It Like Its Hot and The Next Episode earlier this month).
In summary, I agree because there's precedent and because I agree with funnii's point about how the themes don't need a separate article
i feel like general references to the shows aren't really a meme in the first place for like the same reason as spongebob, too generically popular (i guess no one actually felt that strongly about spongebob not being a meme to propose it though)
I am indifferent to this as long as the top infobox for each of the combined pages does not imply that a TV show has a key and BPM
As long as that shit is in a separate infobox I don't mind what happens to the articles
