SiIvaGunner Wiki:Meme discussion/Log/11th: Maki is Knuckles
Have been considering doing some form of discussion around making this a "Rips featuring" category, since think every Maki Nishikino's Birthday has least one rip that references this meme by Triple-Q, especially 2021.
Not to mention the fact that there are quite a few Sonic 3 Knuckles theme rips that are with Maki songs, there is an inverse pair for Daring!! and Unknown from ME, or the countless other Knuckles related songs with Maki as the joke.
I also feel a category such as this could be needed since we do exclude such rips from the rips referencing Triple-Q category, so why not just give them their own category instead?
Overall, Maki is Knuckles is one meme that I have seen been used over the years and hasn't really gone away, especially since it does come up in relation to either of the two characters in related events.

I am not gonna sort out all my opinions just yet for me to vote but I will say that most of the maki birthday events involved knuckles in various ways
honestly i do find it bit odd that we mention the meme in Triple-q's referencing category, much like for Baneposting and Todokete
yet like it doesn't link to anything or really least like have place to keep note of it all
that's another thing really, why isn't Maki is knuckles meme on the triple q references category?
Personally see this as unnecessary, "Aishiteru Banzai!" and "Unknown from M.E." both have meme pages that both bring up this combination.

like its a running gag that is very much a tradition on the channel, but it feels like one of those crossover episodes between two memes that happen a few times a year or so

it's easier to quickly explain why I dislike this specifically being titled a "meme" than attempting to dismantle the concept of reference jokes consistently.
Ignore the rip count, as you have done already for Q as a whole. "Maki is Knuckles" as an article would not have enough content to truly explain.
- "Triple-Q has pointed out in the past that Maki and Knuckles have a handful of attributes in common" [already on the first article. expand (if possible) with whatever tweet archives you can find.]
- Explain how the first few rips point this out [already on those articles]
- images. art collab, art collab, piano rectangle. [can both be placed on the Unknown from M.E. and Aishiteru articles]
Remember, Sans is Ness has a stronger point behind it. The game theory video is being actively mocked, rather than only calling back to a joke combination without depth stronger than two characters just appearing next to each other. The Maki combination even seems like it's directly riffing off of this concept, MAKI Mix was released two months after the game theory video.
What can be scrapped of this can be implemented independent of meme discussion:
- Maki is Knuckles can exist as a redirect to Triple-Q#Maki_is_Knuckles (this would be under "References in rips")
- A Rips Referencing category is created for the rips MSL has compiled, as the intersection is valuable for sorting purposes.
- This category is linked to from this subsection, and on Aishiteru Banzai and Unknown from M.E.
- On that note, add bane and snow halation as subcategories of Q references if we're trying to be consistent.

An article which does the things you think a Maki is Knuckles article should do, explaining connections between the characters and how it is represented in rips, along with holding the gallery, seems like a good article to me? I don't understand why you think Maki is Knuckles is inherently "lesser"?
Aishiteru Banzai! [divorced from its role in Maki is Knuckles] is just numbers. There is nothing to explain at all.
Unknown from M.E.'s article is very wordy for no apparent reason, but it's obviously fluffy. Paragraph about its various first uses in different contexts only to admit that none of its uses prior to "Unknown from M.E. (OST Version) - Sonic Adventure" are notable, paragraph about subsequent rips of the track that attribute it to the OST Version's popularity despite not really having any connection, paragraph noting that the track is similar to the DK Rap in the channel context but not as memetic and how other Knuckles joke are more memetic. And finally the Maki is Knuckles sentence that was just tacked on without considering the flow of the article. A fluffy article for a barely relevant even at its prime recurring source is probably fine but still. My personal analysis of Unknown from ME's usage is that this is at it MAY be a minor 2016 meme but it is hard to really extract anything because it gets a lot of strays due to being a popular song from a popular franchise and a convenient way to reference other memes like "oh no", Maki is Knuckles, & Knuckles, etc. (shock of all shock, it is the main theme of Knuckles) (No Patrick, we don't need a Knuckles mutlisource.)
having an article for this intersection would nullify a lot of the purpose aishiteru banzai's page has. perhaps put the brunt of the maki is knuckles stuff onto that page instead, so the content can be beefed up further (also the 6 events, don't forget that).
"why only that article?" while unknown from m.e. has the sentence mixing joke to fall back on, love live is clearly the more niche thing here, it's why the juxtaposition works. triple-q watches anime, the anime is attatched to a more mainstream video game character, the combination joke goes onto the weaker one's article to explain the importance of love live on the channel further.
turning the ashiteru banzai page into the stealth maki is knuckles page instead of just giving it its own page
the only possible motivation i can think of for why this would be a better idea than just making the maki is knuckles page is that ashiteru banzai is a legally required freqrip page that cannot be merged into love live as a meme due to the magolore paradox

you could always make it a Rips Referencing category divorced of a page if you want to get it done faster
