"PlayStation Startup () - Console/BIOS Music" is a high quality rip of the  of "Startup" from the PlayStation.

Jokes

This is based on Hitogata, an urban legend about a lost Japanese train safety PSA.

The rip starts with the advertised track playing before abruptly cutting off at 0:13. At 0:18, a disclaimer in Japanese appears, warning about the software still being in development and issues with disk may occur. At 0:26, the game in question is shown to be the PlayStation port of Densha de GO! with the game's opening cutscene and title screen shown. At 0:55, the player tries to select a train, however three of the options are shown to still be under development, leaving the top left one as the only option. After viewing the regular instructions about how to play the game, gameplay proceeds normally at first, with the player exiting the first station and heading to the next station. At 3:02, the player applies the brakes too late, causing them to miss the platform and lose all their bonus time. As in the real game, a red train icon reading "Time is up" appears.

At 3:26, gameplay restarts but begins to deviate heavily; almost all of the HUD elements are corrupted except for the speedometer, which constantly switches between 0km/h and 130km/h, the sky is pitch black, and the tracks are completely straight. As well, there is almost nothing else surrounding the track, with only the ground, telegraph poles, a couple of houses, and station platforms present. The ground is also shown to be disappearing right as it passes the screen on the lower half. At 4:45, the player approaches the station, where a person is present on the track. At 4:50, the train collides with the person, the screen goes black, a crashing sound is heard, and the train icon has blood splatter added over it. At 4:55, the distance of the train stopping is shown with it stopping right at the accident, blood surrounding the crash, and no other HUD elements appearing. At 5:01, the "Time is up" screen appears again, followed by the game over screen. At 5:12, a recreation of Hitogata is shown with the background consisting of a train station, with the text shown changed to "パスト/ザー/デジレー/フォー/ウンダースタンディング" (which roughly translates to "Past the desire for understanding"). At 5:40, an "ADDRESS ERROR" screen is shown before the rip ends.

The whole rip is presented with visual and aural noise with visible stuttering, as though the rip is being displayed on an older television.

ARG

The ADDRESS ERROR screen contains multiple letters, numbers, and symbols. These are seemingly random, but are actually supposed to be used in conjunction with the dialtones found in "Wavetapper - Phigros" (as hinted by the katakana text in the Hitogata recreation immediately prior). The dialtones on the aforementioned rip correspond to numbers, while the error screen in this rip serve as the following:

  • The leftmost numbers correspond to indexes on the Wavetapper dialtones.
  • *X indicates that the index result should be repeated X amount of times.
  • +X indicates that the index result should have X added to it.
  • -N indicates that the number should not be decoded with the final result.

The last result, when decrypted with a Multitap ABC cipher, produced a URL in the Haltmann Works Co. Internal Database Portal.

Trivia

  • This is currently one of only two PlayStation Console/BIOS Music rips to not be released during a Halloween event, with the other being the 2016 rip.
