VLDC9 (short for The 9th Annual Vanilla Level Design Contest) is a Super Mario World contest ROM hack made by the SMW Central team and released on the website on December 18, 2016. This was the 9th annual contest collaboration; participants needed to create the best level design made in a Super Mario World hack with Lunar Magic, which meant that only vanilla levels designs were accepted. This resulted in 117 levels with 152 exits in total. The winners of the contest were Impetus and Noivern with their level "Subterranean Glow".
The finished ROM hack has been memorable for its soundtrack. The most popular track in the game is "Abstract Map" by Torchkas, which was also featured in Mario's Mystery Meat, another ROM hack on SMW Central which uses one of VLDC9's levels.
