Super Smash Bros. Melee is a video game developed by HAL Laboratory and Intelligent Systems and published by Nintendo on Nintendo GameCube in 2001. The game's soundtrack is arranged by Hirokazu Ando, Shogo Sakai, Tadashi Ikegami, and Takuto Kitsuta (with various composers including Koji Kondo credited for the original tracks).

Overview

Super Smash Bros. Melee is a platform fighter featuring characters from various Nintendo properties and the sequel to the N64 game Super Smash Bros.. It expends on the original roster of characters, the single player content as well as the overall gameplay, faster than the original. Despite receiving three sequels (Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and 3DS and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate), it is still played around the world at a competitive level.

The game adds 14 new characters, including the Ice Climbers and both Marth and Roy from the Fire Emblem series who appear for the first time in a game outside of Japan, a move that would eventually lead to the localization of Fire Emblem: The Blazing Blade in the west. The Adventure Mode, alternating between short platform sections and themed fights, also introduces Giga Bowser as a secret boss.

The soundtrack of the game once again pulls from all the playable characters' franchises, but not only uses new tracks from games released between the two Super Smash Bros. (like The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask and Pokémon Gold & Silver) but also features orchestral pieces performed by the New Japan Philharmonic.

Notes

  1. On GilvaSunner's upload of "All-Star Rest Area", Arrangement was misspelled as Arrangment (without an e). This error was intentionally made in the rip "All-Star Rest Area (Beta Mix) - Super Smash Bros. Melee" upon its release, and was applied to all rips of "All-Star Rest Area" on July 20, 2023.[this appears on other rips too]
